Why Taekwondo is good for you

Why Taekwon-do is good for you

Taekwondo is an effective workout that engages multiple muscle groups, enhancing overall fitness, balance, coordination, and flexibility. Even those who prefer non-combat training can benefit from these movements as part of their conditioning and strength-building routines.

The practice of taekwondo involves synchronizing arm and leg movements, which fosters flexibility in the legs, as well as core and spinal strength.

It serves as a practical self-defence training method while also promoting injury prevention in other sports by teaching proper falling techniques.

While taekwondo is primarily an individual sport, it significantly enhances communication skills and encourages collaborative training in groups. Our clubs provide a welcoming community with various social activities beyond just the sport.

The benefits of taekwondo extend to mental well-being, as its structured environment helps cultivate self-confidence, self-discipline, and respect for oneself and others.

Lil' Leaders

Taekwon-do-Wales introduced the Lil' Leaders programme for children aged 4-6, aimed at simplifying the learning process. Master Peter Kent-Marrast, a 7th degree instructor, has recognized the challenges children face with complex grading criteria that mirror those set for adults.

The programme encourages children to express their skills in a supportive environment by focusing on fundamental key skills while maintaining high standards and quality.

Successful participants will earn a belt and certificate from TKD Wales. The primary aim of the programme is to foster a strong character and enhance self-confidence. Given the social challenges many children face, this initiative supports the development of focus, coordination, and self-control. Interested parents are encouraged to inquire about a FREE trial.

Our club prides itself on fostering a friendly, inclusive atmosphere, and we offer family membership packages upon request.

Classes for Juniors

At our Aberbargoed location, we offer junior classes nearly every night. New students can participate in beginner classes that are pressure-free and enjoyable, ensuring that the training experience remains engaging and fun.

Classes for Adults

Taekwon-do-Wales boasts a large and dynamic adult class. With sessions available on Monday, Thursday, and Friday evenings, both individuals and families experience exciting training that balances fun and serious practice, while enhancing taekwondo skills and fitness.

Ladies Only Classes

In September 2009, at the request of parents, Master Patricia Kent-Marrast 7th degree launched Ladies Only classes, conducted by female instructors. This initiative has resulted in an empowering environment where women can train free from children and men, leading to improved fitness and confidence.

TKD Wales Elite Team

For those aspiring to compete in National and International Tournaments, our elite junior team training takes place on Friday nights and Sunday mornings, covering both fighting techniques and patterns. Our students have successfully competed in various tournaments across Europe and throughout the UK.
